Earth Date: 28 May 2025 Location: Emergency Compartment 7X, Virgin Lunar Module Status: Signal received… unknown identity
“Something pierced the void today. A sound. Irregular, faint… but unmistakably human.”
“Morse code. My army days flooded back—well, sort of—I vaguely remember those lessons. And no, we didn’t spend all five years just drinking beer.”
“Every pause, every tap… it clicked. The message: ‘Hello Max, it’s Judith.’”
“Judith? I don’t know that name.”
“Code name? Fake ID? Ghost from my past? I don’t even know how to reply. Then… nothing. Silence. Signal gone.”
“Then Cary whispered—barely audible: ‘Water…?’”
“I looked at her: lifeless, yet systems on standby. Does a robot crave water? Or is she reliving some human memory?”
“I gave her a sip—no short circuits, thankfully. Next, I checked our reserves: five days of water. That’s it. After that… the abyss.”
“As for space soup, it never quits. Irony: I’ll stay fed—‘well-fed’ is generous—it’s revolting. If I ever make Earth again, Virgin Galactic’s chef is in for a rant… .”
“I filled a cup and placed it by Cary. She didn’t move—but maybe she heard me.”
“And through it all, one phrase haunts me: ‘Hello Max, it’s Judith.’ Who is she—and how do I answer?”
